Biography

Pietro Bosoni is currently a Junior Assistant Professor (RTDa) at the Department of Industrial and Information Engineering of the University of Pavia. At the same institution, he earned his Master’s Degree in Bioengineering in 2017 and his PhD in Health Technologies, Bioengineering, and Bioinformatics in 2022. During his research path, he has been a visiting scholar at Brunel University London and Aalborg University.

His Master’s thesis was recognized with the "Mario Stefanelli" award, while his PhD thesis was honored with the "Gianluigi Zanetti" prize awarded by the National Bioengineering Group (GNB). His scientific activity focuses on time-series analysis and the application of machine learning methods in the biomedical and environmental fields.

He is the lead instructor for the course "Principles of Computer Science" in the Bachelor’s degree program "Environment and Workplace Prevention Techniques," and for the course "Privacy Protection and Private Law in the Digital Dimension" within the Master’s degree program "Prevention, Innovation, and Security Law for Businesses and Public Administration" at the University of Pavia.

Projects

Brainteaser

(BRinging Artificial INTelligencE home for a better cAre of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple SclERosis) https://brainteaser.health/

The objective of the European project BRAINTEASER is to develop models capable of predicting the progression of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The project implements a system based on wearable sensors to monitor the course of these neurodegenerative diseases and support clinical decision-making and prevention strategies. Specifically, applications are designed to provide clinicians with tools to suggest targeted interventions that can help slow disease progression and optimize patient care. BRAINTEASER integrates various data sources, generating datasets that include information on health, lifestyle habits, and environmental factors.

  • Funding: European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program (grant agreement No GA101017598).

  • Principal Investigators: Riccardo Bellazzi, Arianna Dagliati

OnFOODS

(ON Foods - Research and innovation network on food and nutrition Sustainability, Safety and Security - Working ON Foods) https://onfoods.it/spokes/spoke-06

OnFOODS is an Italian research and innovation network dedicated to nutrition and the food system. It operates as a coordination hub for seven thematic Spokes, each focused on a specific area but integrated synergistically to pursue common goals related to food safety, quality, nutrition, and the prevention of malnutrition.

In particular, Spoke 06 "Tackling Malnutrition", led by Prof. Hellas Cena of the University of Pavia, focuses on developing nutritional strategies for the most vulnerable segments of the population, such as people with chronic conditions and the elderly. The goal is to ensure adequate nutrition and prevent malnutrition-related conditions that can reduce resilience and exacerbate frailty.

Within this Spoke, our laboratory contributes to the development of mobile applications to support the improvement of dietary habits in at-risk subjects, including children with obesity, adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and elderly individuals at risk of malnutrition.
